From Pulicat to the World

Growing up in the Nusantara meant that we would see men in our family or community wear this ubiquitous lightweight fabric from South India as a sarong in their day to day. Whether it is to lounge at home, wrapped over waists during prayers or to carry sleeping babies in, the kain Pulicat (pelikat) is now reimagined beyond its familiar everyday form—shaped into contemporary silhouettes that honour its place in our shared cultural memory.

With its distinctive checks and lived-in familiarity, the textile becomes a quiet expression of heritage: nostalgic yet modern, deeply rooted yet made to move with the women of today.
