The Monochrome Kebaya Kutubaru takes inspiration from the traditional checkered patterns of kain pelikat which originates from Pulicat, India and brings them into a clean, modern silhouette. The design feels familiar and grounded, while still being easy to wear in everyday settings.
Here, it is interpreted in black, white and grey - achromatic to symbolize polar opposites of black (bad) and white (good) in Rwa Bhineda, a philosophy of balance and dualism.
The kebaya kutubaru comes with a detachable central bef and sits neatly on the body without feeling restrictive. Easily transformed when worn with or without the bef, it can be paired with the matching skirt or your favourite jeans for a balanced look that feels both traditional and modern.
The linen-cotton fabric is lightweight enough for warm weather and is machine washable for repeated wear.
