It is believed that Scottish troops stationed in South India in the 18-19th centuries inspired this tartan motif and local weavers adopted it as an extension of the Madras checks.
The kebaya kutubaru comes with a detachable central bef and sits neatly on the body without feeling restrictive. Easily transformed when worn with or without the bef, it can be paired with the matching skirt or your favourite jeans for a balanced look that feels both traditional and modern.
